We Need Healthy Vending to Counteract Junk Food Advertising

5 11 2008

Before you had children, you may have never noticed the amount of food advertisements that are aimed directly at children. However, now, as a parent, you may be astonished to discover just how much time and money food industry advertisers devote to gaining the attention of your child. As the CEO of a healthy vending machine company and a parent myself, I am appalled at this unfortunately truth. Fortunately, this has not escaped the attention of the many people who are concerned about children’s weight, diet, and health care issues.

To that end, last year the Kaiser Family Foundation released the findings of their study of these very advertisements, and as many parents already suspected, a large number of these ads were devoted exclusively to getting children hooked on junk food. In fact, as the study reported, children ages 2 to 7 were the targets of approximately 12 food ads per day, children ages 8 to 12 were the intended subjects of 21 food ads per day, and children ages 13 to 17 were the targets of about 17 ads per day. In short, the study reaffirmed what parents already believed about food advertising: the average child see hours upon hours of it each year of his or her life.

The study also focused on discovering what kinds of food ads were being directed toward children. And, to almost no one’s surprise, it discovered that the majority of these ads were for candies, unhealthy snack foods, sugary cereals, and fast food restaurants. A very slim portion of the ads were devoted to encouraging children to eat their fruits, veggies, and other healthy food options, but these percentages were dwarfed by the large ad buys of the junk food markets. That said, there are few things that a parent can do to keep their child from viewing these ads. The ads are so pervasive that even if you restrict television viewing in your own home, there are few ways to prevent you child from seeing at least some of these promotions once they cross over your threshold and enter the outside world. So what should you do to counteract the influence of such ads on your children?

Start by teaching your child about the basis of good nutrition. Invite him or her into the kitchen to help you plan and prepare meals for your entire family, allowing your child to make suggestions for healthy entrees or side items. Teach your children how to incorporate fruit and vegetables into mealtime. Prepare healthy snack foods for your children, and encourage them to choose healthy snacks even when they are away from home by selecting options from YoNaturals healthy vending machines. As a parent, you may not be able to stop the ads from being shown to your child, but you can counteract the influence that they have over your child’s food choices.

Control Obesity with Organic Food

28 06 2008

Author: Dev Sri

Keeping a Organic food style can help normal persons control obesity.

The main reason for obesity can be attributed to eating too much of processed food, sweetened food, frozen food, and preserved food. Genetic and endocrinal disorders too cause obesity, but such cases are extremely rare compared to normal obesity.

Obesity begins at childhood. We love our children so much that we let them eat whatever they find at a bakery or a eatery. There is no control in ice creams, chocolates, fried items, over cooked items, artificially colored items and food items that have preservatives added to them.

There is no control in food combination at a fast food center. Basic rules of healthy food combination go straight out of the window or burnt below the dishes.

Think about the amount of unhealthy fat, toxic combinations and chemicals that reach the body of a child before he or she turns 12 years. There you can find the root cause of obesity.

For a change, love your children less.

Don’t be too loving a parent to go for your pocket every time your kid saw something yummy at a bakery.

Make your kid suffice with few slices of mango, papaya, banana, whole wheat bread, oatmeal, milk, egg, tuna or moderately cooked lean meat. Don’t listen to his or her cries even if your ears become deafened.

Make your child drink at six to 10 glasses of fresh water instead of carbonated soft drinks or cola.

Make your child take food mildly warm instead of too hot or too cold. See it as a way of respecting the capacity of the digestive system of your kid.

Prevent your child chewing snacks. Replace those potato chips with an orange.

Ensure your child takes his food before seven in the evening.

Ensure the foods are not conflicting nature. Milk and meat are conflicting and can’t be taken together. Several other food combination rules are there in Ayurveda scripts. The easiest way to avoid them altogether will be to avoid catching that fast food restaurant.

If health food supplements are supposed to be Organic solutions for dietary deficiencies in human beings, all Organic health supplements should come from human food. After all, fish eat fish food, dogs eat dog food, cats eat cat food, cows eat grass and dung beetles eat dung. That, by the way is how its always been. Organicly it would be safest for humans to supplement their diet with human Organic food supplements. Consider the overall benefits - weight loss, no obesity, Organic cures, healthy lifestyle, weight control. What more would one ask for? When Organic really is Organic Carrots and whole grains are Organic and healthy for humans that have been proven. So why do so many supplement manufacturers use strange ingredients in their products that have no safe, long-term, non-toxic history of use? The answer is not complex really. There is no other market for this kind of junk, so, as no one else wants it, it’s cheap and plentiful. what scientists don’t really know are the long-term detrimental effects of these non-human foods. Who really wants to be a guinea pig? For instance, let’s take dunalliela salina thats used as a carotenoid; it grows in stagnant polluted water that no living creature eats. Its use in food supplements is based not on nutrition but on profit margins and hype-marketing. Organic foods and food supplements are strong marketing expressions. And the majority of marketers have no issues with concocting tales, stretching the truth and misusing these words to promote their “unOrganic” products particularly if it increases their profit margin. Human food chain nutrition If you want nutritional foods that go way beyond Organic, you ought to consider whole food and even organic foods. These Organic food supplements use traditional fruits, vegetables and whole grains as their source of ingredients. They are even guaranteed to be free of all toxins and have been proven to work. Hundreds of thousands of satisfied people in dozens of countries around the world have been using Organic supplements for over 50 years to look and feel their best - Organicly. Benefits of Organic food supplements They encourage access to key nutrients that prevent disease. Thus they eliminate the population of diseased, malnourished customers. They make artificial food supplements more expensive, putting their purchase out of reach of more consumers. With the loss of vitamin sales, a lot of artificial health retailers will be forced out of business. This is good for the health industry at large. The fewer health shops, the less competition there is for prescription drugs. They set the stage for the future banning of artificial food supplements that prevent disease such as blueberries, broccoli and garlic. They allow for the arrest and incrimination of key proponents of bad health (drug manufacturers, retailers and consumers), removing them from the public stage so that they no longer have a voice.

A Healthy Food Relationship and Weight Loss

24 06 2008

Author: Stephen Lau

Everybody wants to lose weight. However, weight loss can only begin with a healthy food relationship.

Nowadays, many men and women desire a healthy body image, which is often a reflection of their overall health. Men and women may look at their bodies differently: men focus on their chest, arms, and abs, while women concentrate on their waist, hips, and thighs. But weight loss for both men and women begins with a healthy food relationship.

What is a food relationship?

Everyone, irrespective of the gender, has both a physical and psychological food relationship. The former has to do with satisfying the physical hunger, while the latter has to do with the appetite, that is, the “desire” for food, which is mostly psychological. Effective and permanent weight loss is contingent on a healthy physical and psychological food relationship.

To establish a good physical food relationship requires an understanding of the science of eating.

Firstly, you have to understand that you eat to live, and not live to eat. You become what you eat: what you eat and drink becomes your body chemistry and your body constitution. If you think you can eat whatever you like and still get away with it, think again!

Eating determines if you are living in harmony with Nature, which is the key to living a long life. You need to know the logistics of eating: what to eat, how to eat, and when to eat, especially the components of food. Eating is a science, so treat it as such.

You eat only when you are hungry. Avoid voluntary eating, such as when you make a beeline for the refrigerator as soon as you walk into the house. Avoid emotional eating to appease your emotions. Avoid sensory eating, which is eating to satisfy your senses.

You eat only what is good for you. You need to understand food criteria. Some of the foods you eat may not be foods at all. For foods to be called “foods,” they must meet certain criteria.

Foods must be living: they must contain enzymes. The vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and proteins in foods are all lifeless unless they are activated by enzymes. Heating and preserving easily destroy the enzymes in foods. Therefore, the way you cook your food, and the types of food you consume are important to your food relationship. Processed and preserved foods neither protect nor preserve your health. To preserve enzymes, go for a raw food diet every now and then, and do not overcook your food. Steaming is the healthiest way of cooking because the food does not have direct contact with the heat source. Deep frying, on the other hand, is the worst method of cooking.

Foods must support your internal bowel ecology. They must facilitate absorption of nutrients and disposal of toxic waste. Foods must help digestion and elimination, which are critical to healthy eating.

Foods must not trigger unfavorable food reaction. Dairy and wheat products may cause food allergies.

Foods must not cause sharp surge of molecular changes in your body, such as a sudden increase in your blood sugar level, or wide fluctuation of neurotransmission caused by caffeine or other chemicals.

Foods must provide adequate calories for your physical activity, but not “empty” calories, which provide little or no nutrients. Consuming empty calories is tantamount to working extremely hard while being unfairly underpaid.

Foods must balance your body chemistry in order to neutralize and eradicate free radicals, which are oxidative stresses that destroy your body cells. Foods must balance your the acid and alkaline level in your body, with no more than 30 percent acid-forming foods, such as meat proteins, and 70 percent or more alkaline-forming foods, such as most fruits and vegetables. All pharmaceutical drugs are acidic. Many health experts believe that a balance of acidity and alkalinity, known as balanced pH level in your body will make you disease-free.

Eat only quality foods: eat, whenever possible, only organic foods. Some of the best foods in nature include the following:

Chlorella is a green single-cell algae cultivated in fresh water ponds. With its grass-like smell, it has the highest concentration of chlorophyll than any other plant in the world. With more than 20 vitamins and minerals, as well as the essential 8 amino acids, chlorella is the perfect food. In addition, it detoxifies by removing toxins and metals from your body.

Wheat grass is another life-giving food rich in enzymes easily assimilated to boost your immune system. It is one of the best sources of chlorophyll, which provides oxygen for your brain and body tissues for longevity. Wheat grass absorbs as many as 92 of the known 102 minerals from the soil. Wheat juice, in particular, is a superior detoxification agent compared to carrot juice. It enhances your digestion, relieves your sore throat, keeps your bowels open, reduces your blood pressure, and improves your cholesterol.

Make the effort to establish a healthy physical food relationship through your choice of food and your method of cooking. Learn to follow Nature’s prescription of suitable times for your meals. You lunch should be the heaviest meal, since your digestive fire is at its maximum potency. A late dinner or binging before bedtime may interfere with your body’s mechanism to detoxify and digest food from the day, making you tired the next morning on waking up.
